Wanting to Break

This is a poem I wrote during my Depth Month of Poetry, in which I wrote a poem each day for an entire month.  I wrote more about this poem within a larger post here about what I learned and experienced during my month of poetry.

Wanting to Break

Wanting to shatter plates and glasses,

Piece them together into an ugly mosaic,

And then shatter them again

Just so they remember they are broken.

Wanting to step into the shards,

Dig heels in, let arches sink,

And dance, crushing myself,

Just so the feet remember they can run.

Wanting to let blood stream,

Collect it all in a bucket,

So I can spill even farther,

Just so the heart remembers it can pump.

But knowing how to want again

Gives heart reason to beat,

Gives feet reason to dance,

Fixes all things

Broken.
