What We Don’t Know
The blade doesn’t know sharpness
Until objects expose insides.
The lava doesn’t know heat
Until it coaxes solid into liquid.
We don’t know our damage
Until someone knows to receive it.
The fish doesn’t know water,
Only asphyxiating air.
The ocean doesn’t know blue,
Only the sky it looks up to.
We don’t know our goodness,
Only the warmth others reflect.
